  • Characteristics
  • Description
  • Cholesterol is synthesized in the body under natural conditions. The majority is produced in the liver, while a smaller percentage is absorbed from food. Cholesterol is primarily found as a component of cell membranes and also plays a role in bile synthesis and skin protection. A normal total cholesterol level in the blood is less than 200 mg/dL. Elevated cholesterol levels indicate a risk of developing atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis can go unnoticed for decades and is often only detected when it reaches a very advanced stage. It is one of the most common and serious cardiovascular diseases in developed countries.
Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol levels) is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, which are the leading cause of mortality in developed countries. According to a study involving 9,000 individuals, more than half of the adult population in Hungary has cholesterol levels above the reference value.

For lifestyle-related risk factors, it is especially important to consider obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, and a high-fat diet. In cases of previously diagnosed high cholesterol levels or hereditary lipid metabolism disorders, it is advisable to demonstrate the effectiveness of proper nutrition and lifestyle.

It can be used several times a year, even in conjunction with other tests.
