When used correctly, a condom is an effective means of preventing unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. However, no contraceptive method can guarantee 100% protection against unwanted pregnancy or STIs.
BEFORE USE:
Before using a condom, check the expiration date on the packaging. If the individual condom package shows visible damage, do not use that condom; instead, use a new one from an undamaged package. Put on the condom before any genital contact with another person. This helps prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV.
HOW TO PUT ON A CONDOM
1. Open the individual package from the serrated edge. The Durex logo on the package indicates the bottom side of the condom. Handle the condom carefully to avoid damaging it with nails or sharp objects.
2. Pinch the tip of the condom and place it on the tip of the erect penis, ensuring it is rolled on the outside.
3. Roll the condom all the way down. If it doesn’t unroll easily, it might be inside out; do not use it and get a new one. If you feel the condom slipping off or it feels too tight, stop using it as this may compromise its integrity. Remove the condom soon after ejaculation. Hold the condom firmly at the base of the penis while removing it.
4. DISPOSAL. Dispose of the individual packaging and used condom in a trash bin. Do not flush them down the toilet.
