Facial Clay – A Treasure Trove of Minerals in Your Cosmetic Bag
The origin of clay could be a lengthy discussion, but we prefer specifics, so here's a brief summary. Clays are extracted from the earth's depths. They formed through numerous processes: chemical, biological, and geological. The most valuable is found deepest.
Each facial clay – and there are many – is rich in trace elements such as magnesium, calcium, iron, and silicon. These minerals in clays are easily absorbed, which explains their popularity in natural skincare. They are successfully used in many cosmetic products, such as creams, soaps, shampoos, and even body scrubs and bath salts. They also work wonderfully on their own.
Yellow clay cleanses and detoxifies more effectively than other clays. It has anti-seborrheic and anti-inflammatory properties, tightens pores, and mattifies. It works well as a mask for skin prone to oiliness and overproduction of sebum. By the way, it also strengthens and enhances elasticity.
Yellow clay owes all these properties to its high content of iron, potassium, and silica. It is sourced in France and obtained from siliceous-aluminous rocks. However, before it finds its way to your bathroom, it is carefully sun-dried.
Yellow clay is also recommended for oily and damaged hair. Clay is the perfect base for homemade masks – you can add hydrosol, your favorite oil, or serum to them.
-
You can mix the clay with water or hydrosol. Add a few drops of your favorite oil, serum, or even yogurt to the mixture. It's important to keep the clay from drying out on your face – spritzing with water or hydrosol will help. Facial clays can be mixed together.
Quick Yellow Clay Mask: Mix one tablespoon of clay with your favorite hydrosol and 2-3 drops of your chosen oil until you get a paste-like consistency. Apply evenly to your face. Rinse off after 10 minutes. Remember to keep the mask from drying out by spritzing your face with hydrosol. This combination of clay, hydrosol, and oil can also be used as a scalp mask.
Store in a dry, shaded place. Avoid contact with eyes. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
