I ordered Eau de Rochas for my birthday last year because it was the 50th anniversary of this fragrance. I also really wanted something in a beautiful and memorable bottle. In addition, I happened to see a TV show about Galina Ulanova the day before. Her students and those who saw her on stage talked about what a ballet goddess she was, how enchanting her dance was, and how she loved to dress very elegantly, preferably in costumes that leading designers in Paris and London were happy to give her. However, she was completely indifferent to perfumes; she received many expensive and fashionable ones as gifts, thanked sincerely, and then re-gifted them. This was because she loved nature very much and believed that there was nothing better than natural scents that perfumers were unable to capture. But one day, in 1970, she came across the newly released Rochas Eau de Rochas and fell in love with it. She loved everything about it, starting from the bottle that resembled mountain crystal and the frost patterns on the glass, to the transparent mountain stream, and ending with the gentle scent of awakening nature. Since then, she would only bring Eau de Rochas from all her tours. And to this day, a bottle with remnants of this perfume stands on a shelf in the bathroom of her museum-apartment. That's how I wanted to touch the legend, and that's how I made my choice. Of course, I understand that all fragrances have been reformulated since then, but this one still sounds magical and unlike anything else. It may be slightly bitter for some and may seem too retro, but it definitely doesn't smell like grandma's old chest. It sits close to the skin, so don't expect a strong trail. It has average longevity. It is a unisex scent.
